How to resize images without stretching or blurring

Image resizing changes pixel dimensions. Done carefully, it can make uploads faster and images fit a required layout without distortion.

Step-by-step advice

Find the dimensions required by your website, document, or application. Keep the original aspect ratio when possible. For example, an image that is twice as wide as it is tall should remain twice as wide after resizing. Resize downward for smaller display sizes, then inspect the output. Avoid enlarging small images beyond their original dimensions when sharpness matters.

What to watch for

Cropping and resizing are different operations: cropping removes part of the picture, while resizing changes its dimensions. Use cropping when a target aspect ratio differs from the original.
